The Personnel Department
Welcome to the City of Dothan Personnel Department website - where you will find information about our services, benefits, and employment opportunities with the City of Dothan, Alabama.
Created by Act Number 273 (PDF), Alabama Legislature, dated August 7, 1947, the Personnel Department operates under the supervision of the Citizens Supervisory Committee, a five-member Personnel Board, and a personnel director for the administration of the City of Dothan Civil Service System established by the Act.
Functions
In the 50-plus years since its creation, the Personnel Department's services have expanded to encompass a full spectrum of human resource functions. Today we administer the following centralized functions for a workforce of over 1,100 full- and part-time classified and unclassified employees:
- Recruitment, Testing, and Certification
- Wage and Salary / Pay and Classification
- Job Evaluation and Analysis
- Payroll and Benefits Administration
- Employee Performance Evaluation
- Employment Records Management
- Employee Health Clinic and First Aid
- Workers Compensation Administration
- Employee Training and Development
- Compliance Monitoring and Reporting (Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) /Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO))
Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Personnel Department to carry out the provisions of the Civil Service System for the City of Dothan, be a strategic partner with city management in all areas of municipal human resource management and employee relations, and be a service-oriented department, serving as a resource to the workforce on employment and human relations issues.
